Circulation Services

Circulation Services is the first contact point for library users, which assists them in locating and circulating library materials. The service counters are located on every floor in the Library. Library staff at the service counters are ready to answer enquiries and provide professional services.

For convenience, self-check machines are available on 1/F and 2/F. For the first time user, you will need to change the password through “My Library Account” before using the self-check machines. You are encouraged to borrow and return library materials by using the time-saving devices. The Library Services Counters can also be reached at (852) 3963-5310 or library@hsmc.edu.hk.

Return

Library materials can be returned via self-check machines or book drop (during Library closing hours). The last return time of all Library Collections will be 30 minutes before the Library closed. You may find the details of returning different types of materials in the Library Regulations 3.5.

Please return your loan items on or before the due date to avoid overdue fines.

Renewal

You may renew the loan items online once, provided that no other users hold the same items.

How do I renew an item?

Recall

“Recall” means a user has made a request for an item which is currently checked out by another user. Upon recall, the loan period for the checked out item will be shortened to 14 days from the date of recall. All books of Circulation Collection are subject to recall. You may refer to the Library Regulations 3.7 to obtain more information.

Reservation

You can reserve a loan item in the Circulation Collection online.

Pickup notices will be sent via your campus email account. You must pick up the reserved item at 1/F Library Service Counter within two opening days of the Library. Otherwise, they will be passed to fill the next request or returned to the shelves.

Fines

Fines will be charged for late return items. Fine rate is based on the information stated in the Library Regulations 3.9.

Overdue notices will be sent to your campus email accounts. Non-receipt of the overdue notices will not be accepted as an excuse for waiving or reducing the overdue fines.

Loss, Assumed Loss and Damaged Items

You should check the books before checking out and report to the Library staff for any missing or torn pages immediately. You are responsible for any loss or damage of the loan items and will be charged accordingly. Please find the Library Regulations 3.10 for more detailed information.

Loss of Library Privileges

Your library privileges will be suspended as stated in the Library Regulations 4.
